Financial Services Committee visits Frankfurt and Strasbourg
On Monday, 14 and Tuesday, 15 January 2019, the AmCham EU Financial Services Committee visited Frankfurt and Strasbourg to discuss a number of pressing issues with a variety of policy-makers.
In Frankfurt, the delegation met with the European Central Bank (ECB), as well as hosting a joint-lunch with AmCham Germany with representatives of the Bundesbank and BaFin to discuss the Risk Reduction Measures, the ESAs Review, equivalence and the Investment Firm Review. In Strasbourg, the Committee met with several MEPs including Danuta Huebner (EPP, PL), Wolf Klinz (ALDE, DE), Gunnar Hökmark (EPP, SE), Jonás Fernández (S&D, ES) and Mady Delvaux-Stehres (S&D, LU).
Brexit was a recurring theme throughout the delegation, the meetings highlighting the impact of uncertainty upon financial services and the wider political landscape, especially against the backdrop of the forthcoming Parliamentary elections. The deadline of the concluding legislative term in May is giving a sense of urgency to key policy-makers as they attempt to close multiple files.
