Brussels, 2 December 2015 – The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) supports the European Commission’s commitment to the circular economy as exemplified by the Circular Economy Package released today. The package rightly identifies many of the challenges as well as growth and job opportunities of the circular economy.

AmCham EU is committed to the principles of the circular economy and agrees with the Commission’s assessment that many dimensions of the circular economy remain sector-specific and a ‘one size fits all’ approach would not be effective for industries that often operate globally. As stated in our position paper published in July, many sectoral legislations already exist to drive the use of waste as resources. Efforts should therefore be focused on ensuring consistent implementation as well as supporting Member States where basic infrastructure is lacking.

AmCham EU members are committed to sourcing materials responsibly and to seeking greater resource efficiency throughout a product’s life cycle, from production to reuse and recycling. We therefore look forward to contributing to the important work ahead in developing innovative solutions and new markets for secondary goods.
