May Plenary meeting focuses on data protection

AmCham EU’s May Plenary meeting took place on Wednesday 25 May 2016 and focused on data protection. 

The meeting kicked off with a panel discussion on how to balance security, privacy and the economy. Brando Benifei, Member of the European Parliament (S&D, IT), Linda Corugedo-Steneberg, Principal Adviser, DG CNECT, European Commission, Jeremy Rollison, Director, Government Affairs, EU Institutions, Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA), Microsoft Europe and Bruno Gencarelli, Head of Unit, Data Protection, DG JUST, European Commission, took the floor. The panel was moderated by Pastora Valero, Vice President, Public Policy and Government Affairs EMEAR, Cisco and Chair of the Digital Economy Committee, AmCham EU.

Giovanni Buttarelli, European Data Protection Supervisor, provided a keynote and discussed the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation, international data transfers and the EU-US Privacy Shield.
