AmCham EU responded to the recent inception impact assessment on the revision of the EU legislation on medicines for children and rare diseases. In the response we encouraged the European Commission to protect frameworks that stimulate R&D, to build on the EU’s strengths and to incorporate learning from other regions. AmCham EU responds to European Data Protection Board recommendations

AmCham EU appreciates the attempt of the European Commission to provide a roadmap for the implementation of the new standard contractual clauses (SCCs) as well as European Data Protection Board's (EDPB) public consultation on the Recommendations 01/2020 to collect feedback on the supplementary measures. However, we are concerned that the EDPB guidance goes beyond both the general data protection regulation and the Schrems II ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union. Global business community calls on EU to safeguard international data flows

The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) joins a wide-ranging coalition of industry groups in a call to the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and the European Commission to ensure much-needed legal certainty around data flows in and outside of the European Union. 

‘International data flows are an integral pillar of global trade, and any disruption to their free flow constitutes a major challenge to every economic sector,’ the groups wrote in a letter sent on Monday, 21 December. ‘The recent developments following the Schrems II judgment in the European Union are creating deep uncertainty throughout the world, as the wide geographic variety of co-signatories to this statement demonstrates.’

American companies support the EU’s climate ambitions

At selected manufacturing plants in Spain, CNH Industrial has implemented its ‘ENCLAVE LABORAL’ initiative to integrate people with physical and cognitive impairments into the manufacturing area. The project has been a real success in demonstrating that workers with disabilities can perform just as well as their able-bodied colleagues on the factory floor. It has also been a highly impactful initiative for the employees themselves. Letter to Commissioner McGuinness: Cooperation on open, innovative and sustainable European financial markets

The Financial Services Committee together with the Sustainable Finance Task Force sent a letter to Commissioner Mairead McGuinness congratulating her on her appointment as European Commissioner for financial services, financial stability and Capital Markets Union. AmCham EU, as a unique forum for discussion and advocacy on regulatory and policy matters relating to transatlantic capital markets and mutually beneficial investment for the EU and US, is a strong supporter of dialogue and cooperation between EU and US financial services authorities. Business concerns vis-à-vis Turkish additional customs duties

AmCham EU wishes to raise to the European Council and European Commission our concerns vis-à-vis the additional customs duties (ACDs) implemented by Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic. Turkey has been imposing and increasing ACDs in April and May 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic on a wide range of products. AmCham EU is committed to open trade and trade liberalisation measures as a matter of principle. FTI Consulting has partnered with the Taylor Bennett Foundation, a charity that encourages BAME students to pursue a career in communications. FTI Consulting aims to support opportunity for all colleagues equally; irrespective of ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, religion, disability or age. FTI has an active global diversity and inclusion programme which is complemented locally with such initiatives as the partnership with the Taylor Bennett Foundation in London and Brussels. Going forward, FTI Consulting is working towards a charter of standards that reflects its commitments to diversity and inclusion. Town Hall on the future of EU-UK relations

We would like to take a moment to recognise the outstanding commitment of Susan Danger, our CEO, over the past 25 years. Susan joined AmCham Belgium's EU Committee in 1995 as Communications Manager and later became Managing Director of the newly spun-off AmCham EU in 2004 before being named CEO in 2016. Her time at AmCham EU can be characterised by its constant modernisation, maintaining a sustainable structure that supports member expectations while consistently improving quality of work and reputation. Working towards a more sustainable European aviation industry

On Monday, 30 November AmCham EU published its position on sustainable aviation. Our members represent the entire aviation value chain, from jet fuel providers and engine manufacturers to airframers and aircraft end-users. These members are investing sizable amounts in innovating for environmental improvement, including through the modernisation of aircraft fleets, as well as flight and ground optimisation. AmCham EU CEO discusses EU-US relations with Euronews

Susan Danger, CEO, AmCham EU sat down with Euronews on Monday, 30 November to discuss the European Commission's plans to further the EU-US relationship. The Commission's plans focus on five key priority areas, including combatting climate change, enhancing the economic recovery and upholding multilateralism. Susan welcomed the plans and highlighted the importance of a positive transatlantic relationship for prosperity and growth on both sides of the Atlantic.
