Anthony Gardner confirmed as new US Ambassador the EU

Following a confirmation vote in the United States Senate last night, Anthony Luzzatto Gardner has been confirmed as the new United States Ambassador to the European Union. 

The American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union congratulates Ambassador Gardner on his appointment. We look forward to working closely with him and his team to continue deepening and strengthening EU ties through a comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership agreement.

Ambassador Gardner was an active fundraiser for the Obama re-election campaign. He served as Director for European Affairs in the National Security Council in 1994-95, responsible for relations between the US and the institutions and countries holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. Ambassador Gardner was instrumental in conceiving and drafting, together with the US Mission to the EU, the New Transatlantic Agenda – a concrete blueprint for joint action between the US and the EU in addressing global challenges. He has written widely on EU issues, including a book A New Era in US-EU Relations? The Clinton Administration and the New Transatlantic Agenda.
