EU and US to launch new dialogue on security and defence

The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) welcomes the launch of the EU-US dedicated dialogue on security and defence that will take place on 22 April 2022 following its initial announcement during the EU-US Summit in June 2021. The dialogue comes at a pivotal moment for transatlantic security and will serve as a valuable forum for exploring closer cooperation in the field of security and defence.

On Friday, 8 April AmCham EU hosted the event ‘European Parliament midterm: what to expect in the next two and a half years of the EU legislative term?’. After a presentation on the main midterm changes in the European Parliament by Doru Peter Frantescu, CEO and Co-founder, VoteWatch Europe, we welcomed László Andor, Secretary-General, Foundation for European Progressive Studies, Tomi Huhtanen, Executive Director, Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, and Daniel Kaddik, Executive Director, European Liberal Forum for a panel discussion. During the session, we assess the first half of the EU legislative term and discuss what to expect in the last two EU legislative years before the next EU elections in 2024.

World IP day - IP and youth: Innovating for a better future

Intellectual property rights (IPR) support the transition to a digital and sustainable future by enabling innovation. On Tuesday, 26 April join AmCham EU and the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day 2022. The event will feature young entrepreneurs and institutional voices presenting ongoing initiatives in the field of IP, as well as in the context of the European Year of Youth. This year’s Transatlantic Conference, themed ‘Shared values, shared impact: the power of the transatlantic relationship’ served to spark dialogues on the importance of a strong and united transatlantic relationship, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine. The conference took place on Thursday, 24 March 2021 and featured speakers from both sides of the Atlantic. As an opening speech, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo reiterated the importance of a shared response against Russia’s aggression, but noted that the spark of a revitalised transatlantic cooperation had been lit months back.

Statement on new EU-US framework for transatlantic data flows

2021 was a record-breaking year for the transatlantic economy, new report shows

A new survey from the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce reports that the transatlantic trade and investment relationship hit record-breaking numbers in 2021. The findings come out against a difficult political and economic backdrop, with the war raging in Ukraine and after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Inflation, congested supply chains, scarcity of raw materials and energy prices also add to global uncertainty. Despite this, the report demonstrates the resilience of the transatlantic economy and outlines avenues to strengthen the EU-US partnership with initiatives such as the Trade and Technology Council. To download the study, please click here.
