AmCham EU welcomes the European Commission’s commitment to better enforcement of IPRs
On 29 November, the European Commission published its long-awaited ‘IP Package’, which aims to promote the enforcement of intellectual property rights.
Creativity and innovation lie at the heart of our members’ business models. Recent studies have shown that IPR intensive industries account for around 42 % of EU GDP, generate 38 % of all jobs, and contribute as much as 90% of EU exports. As such, they contribute to Europe’s competitiveness and job creation.
By promoting due diligence and encouraging all stakeholders to work together, the Commission hopes to lay the ground for better cooperation in the fight against IP infringements.
The guidance on the implementation of the IPR enforcement directive (IPRED) should assist in creating more legal certainty for all participants in the IP system and increasing consumer protection.
Furthermore we are pleased that the European Commission recognized the wider role that standards play in Europe and in the Digital Single Market.
The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) therefore welcomes the Commission’s approach for increased cooperation among stakeholders and its commitment to a better enforcement of intellectual property rights and calls on EU Member States to step up their efforts.
