Brussels, 28 May 2015 – The European Parliament’s International Trade Committee draft report with recommendations on TTIP today represents a significant positive step of support towards the trade deal between the EU and the US and reaffirms the EU’s commitment to transparency and democratic principles as key elements in trade negotiations.

Underlining that point, the EU Member States initially gave the European Commission the mandate to begin TTIP negotiations with the United States. Since then, the Commission has encouraged and promoted stakeholder participation and outreach at all levels including Member States; this has been critical in ensuring a balanced agreement that meets the needs of EU and US citizens alike.

AmCham EU believes TTIP presents one of the best opportunities to create the conditions to further trade and investment with the United States and bring about more jobs, lower prices, greater consumer choice and more investment across Europe.

AmCham EU would like to recognise and thank the rapporteur of the report, MEP Bernd Lange, and all the Committees involved for their effort in bringing the report this far and we look forward to the upcoming European Parliament vote in June.
