Breakfast briefing on transatlantic defence cooperation and interdependence

AmCham EU’s Security and Defence Committee hosted a high-level breakfast meeting on transatlantic defence cooperation and interdependence, with a keynote address delivered by Maciej Popowski, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and speeches from MEP Ioan Mircea Pașcu, Vice-President of the European Parliament, and Rini Goos, Deputy Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency (EDA). The discussion was moderated by Thomas Reynaert (UTC), Chair of the AmCham EU Security and Defence Committee. 

 

Healthcare Committee delegation visit to Latvia

As a follow-up to the Presidency Group Delegation visit to Latvia, a delegation of the Healthcare Committee went to Latvia yesterday to discuss with Ms. Egita Pole, Under Secretary of State for Health and local experts the ongoing negotiations on medical devices, but also joint procurement of medicines, the value for the overall economy of investing in health, and eHealth/mHealth.

 

 

Delegation from U.S. House of Representatives visit AmCham EU

A delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives led by Rep. Frederick Upton (R-MI) met with AmCham EU members on Wednesday 6 May. The delegation was composed of 9 Congressmen, mainly drawing from the Energy and Commerce Committee, who visited Europe to examine pharmaceutical regulatory approval process, energy market integration and energy security.

Jeffrey Immelt, GE Chairman and CEO, addresses AmCham EU

GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt addressed an audience of AmCham EU members and EU stakeholders at the AmCham EU offices on Tuesday 5 May 2015. He outlined his perspective on what Europe needs to do to reignite growth, build competitiveness and create more jobs in the coming decade. During his address he outlined the contribution which GE is making to the European economy and spoke about the company’s investments in Europe.

For GE, Europe represents €13 billion in exports and €20 billion of revenue.

AmCham EU Executive Council convenes in Brussels for series of high-level meetings

The AmCham EU Executive Council was in Brussels last week for a number of high-level meetings with key EU stakeholders. The Council engaged with Pieter de Gooijer, Dutch Ambassador to the EU, Xavier Prats Monné, DG Education and Culture, Declan Kelleher, Irish Ambassador to the EU, Richard Bruton TD, Irish Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Thomas Wieser, President of the Euro Working Group.

March plenary meeting takes place with keynote address from Dominique Ristori

AmCham EU welcomed the European Commission’s recent adoption of an Energy Union framework strategy at its monthly plenary meeting on 24 March 2015, with a keynote address delivered by Dominique Ristori, Director-General of DG Energy at the European Commission.

During his speech, Mr Ristori stressed the need for Europe to reduce its energy dependence and placed emphasis on the value of a strategic energy partnership between the US and EU.
