US industry perspective on the EU Driving Licences Directive

Keeping Europe’s roads safe requires modernising driving license rules, which the EU must ensure are upheld throughout the entire bloc. To align with the rest of the EU’s environmental goals, all Member States must increase the maximum permitted mass of a B category driving licence from 3.5 tonnes to 4.25 tonnes for alternatively fuelled vehicles, as stipulated in the recent Directive. Harmonisation throughout the EU would not only help alleviate labour shortages in the industry and provide business certainty for manufacturers but would also incentivise transport operators to invest in sustainable transport.
