Engaging with the Hungarian Presidency
From Tuesday, 20 to Friday, 23 February 2024, our CEO and a delegation of senior members of AmCham EU visited Budapest ahead of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This is part of AmCham EU’s longstanding programme to engage with every Presidency given the important role they play as an honest broker in the Council. Members of the delegation shared the priorities of the American business community, in particular, the need to strengthen the competitiveness of Europe.
The delegation was an opportunity to highlight the need to make Europe more attractive for investment and simplify rules for business. Our vision document, ‘Attractiveness of Europe: Agenda for Action 2019-2024’ which outlines our priority areas for the next five years was presented at every meeting. AmCham EU representatives met with a wide range of stakeholders, including János Bóka, Minister of European Union Affairs; Barbara Botos, Ambassador-at-large for Climate, Ministry of Energy; Gabriella Kereszty, Senior Foreign Policy Advisor, Office of the former Hungarian President; Zsolt Kutnyányszky, State Secretary, Defence Policy, Force Development and Defence Industry, Ministry of Defence; Márton Nagy, Hungarian Minister for National Economy; Oszkár Ökrös, Deputy State Secretary, International Relations, Ministry of Agriculture; Sándor Pintér, Minister of Interior and Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We also met with the US Embassy team in Hungary and members of AmCham Hungary.
