Security in a changing food landscape
Sovereignty and affordability were the main themes on Wednesday, 25 October at AmCham EU's event Food for all: food security in times of crisis. Experts from the agriculture and food sector discussed how to manage the impacts of biodiversity and climate change on global food supplies. Luis Carazo Jiminez, Acting Director, Directorate-General of Agriculture and Rural Development, European Commission, gave reason for optimism about the future in his presentation on trends in food supplies. The panel discussion made clear that open global dialogue is essential to understanding different perspectives and working towards solving our common food issues.
The event also featured a video message from Robert Bonnie, Under Secretary, Farm Production and Conservation, US Department of Agriculture, on the role of incentives in meeting environmental targets on both sies of the Atlantic. In addition, a panel discussion featured Dacian Ciolos, MEP (RE, RO); Elisa Fertig, Agricultural Attaché, US Mission to the EU; Volker Koch-Achelpöhler, Director, Gowan Crop Protection Ltd.; Celia Nyssens, Policy Manager, European Environmental Burea and Gijs Schilthuis, Head of Unit, Policy Perspectives, Directorate-General of Agriculture and Rural Development, European Commission.. Moderating the afternoon was Julie Vermooten (MSD), Chair, Agriculture & Food Committee, AmCham EU.
