June plenary on medical devices takes place

Plenary Meeting

The June plenary took place on Tuesday 16 June. The focus for the plenary was on Medical Devices with Tomasz Husak, Head of Cabinet to Elzbieta Bienkowska, Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, European Commission, and Carsten Bermig, Member of Bienkowska's Cabinet, as keynote speakers. Mr Husak delivered an address on 'the new regulatory framework for medical devices: combining patients' safety and innovation'.

TTIP Task Force delegation visit to Strasbourg

A delegation from the TTIP Task Force travelled to Strasbourg this week to meet with MEPs ahead of the, since postponed, vote on the INTA report. 

The Task Force were joined by the Transatlantic Business Council (TABC), the European Services Forum (ESF) and BusinessEurope.

Luxembourg at the helm

AmCham EU members participated in a two-day delegation visit to Luxembourg to meet with government representatives ahead of the Luxembourgish EU Presidency.

Members met with representatives from several ministries including Foreign Affairs, Health, Economy, Agriculture and Finance.

Cathy Novelli, US Under Secretary at the State Department, visits AmCham EU

Cathy Novelli, the US Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment at the US State Department visited AmCham EU on Wednesday 3 June. 

The Under Secretary met with a number of AmCham EU members, from various comittees, to discuss US business in Europe as well as key sectoral highlights.

AmCham EU hosts briefing on Pew survey of European attitudes toward the EU

AmCham EU hosted a briefing for members on the results of the annual Pew survey of European attitudes toward the EU, the EU institutions, the European Project, the economy, minorities and extremist political views in Europe on Thursday 4 June.

Bruce Stokes, Director for Global Economic Attitudes at Pew Research provided an overview of the findings of the survey, which found an increase in the number of Europeans who believe the rise of Eurosceptic parties is a positive development. 

AmCham EU Gala 2015 takes place at Concert Noble

The annual AmCham EU Gala took place on the evening of Wednesday 3 June at the Concert Noble in Brussels. The Gala was attended by over 250 guests.

The laureates of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium, Violinists Ji Young Lim and Oleksii Semenenko, performed two pieces each to the seated audience. AmCham EU is delighted to announce that the laureates will also play at the Philips Collection in Washington D.C. on 1 November 2015.

New Chair of the AmCham EU Communications and Marketing Group

Melanie Faithfull Kent, Chief Operating Officer of Hill+Knowlton Strategies, has been confirmed as the Chair of the Communications and Marketing Group and the newest member of the AmCham EU Board. She will serve a two-year term.

Delegation visit to the US for the AmChams in Europe

A delegation from a number of AmChams across Europe took part in a six day visit to California and Washington last week. AmCham EU was represented by Susan Danger, Managing Director.

The visit served as the launch of The Case for Investing in Europe 2015 report which aims to promote US investment in the EU.

Delegation from Financial Services Committee visits Frankfurt and Strasbourg

AmCham EU’s Financial Services Committee travelled to Frankfurt for meetings with the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the European Central Bank (ECB) on Monday 18 May. They discussed the implementation of insurance legislation and the proposed structural reforms for banks with officials.

Annual General Meeting takes place at Bibliothèque Royale

AmCham EU hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 18 May. The lively meeting was held at the Bibliothèque Royale de Belgique. In addition to the business items, which included approving the 2015 annual budget and voting to approve the new Board, Conny Dekens, Office Manager, and Rosaria Sciaccaluga, Operations Assistant, were recognised for 25 years of service to AmCham EU. Additionally, David Hastings, Policy Officer for the Financial Services, Institutional Affairs and EU Tax committees, was also named this year's winner of the Lizanne Scott Staff Excellence Award for his outstanding work.
