Celebrating start-ups with EUROPEN

On Wednesday, 5 June, Thibaut L’Ortye, Senior Director of Public Affairs, AmCham EU, joined the jury of EUROPEN’s Single Market Start-up Award, organised in collaboration with Junior Achievement Europe. The award was presented during EUROPEN’s Annual Reception, which brought together policymakers, industry and youth. The winner, BioNova from Georgia, is a clean tech start-up focused on sustainable solutions.  Second place went to ReachMate, a healthcare start-up from the Netherlands. 

Sharing the Brussels perspective on ESG with AmCham Serbia

On Thursday, 6 June, Edouard Coppieters, Senior Policy Adviser, AmCham EU, spoke on an AmCham Serbia panel covering European environmental, social, and governance (ESG) legislation. Giving the view from Brussels, he provided an update on recent developments on the Omnibus package. During the panel, Mr. Coppieters addressed the political dynamics influencing ESG policy in the EU and globally, highlighting the need to refocus on technical aspects.

Relay for Life 2025

From Saturday, 31 May to Sunday, 1 June, AmCham EU staff, members, alumni and their families took part in the 24 hour Relay for Life at the Stade du Pachy in Waterloo, Belgium. Together, they walked, campaigned and raised funds to support the fight against cancer.  For all involved, staying on the track for a full day was a small but meaningful way to honour the perseverance of those living with cancer and to show support for their loved ones.  

Leadership update

AmCham EU is pleased to announce recent election results and welcome these new and re-elected leaders. We wish successful terms to Véronique Corduant (Amazon), Amelie Coulet (IBM), David Mills (Mondelēz) and Natasa Sbrizaj (3M). Single Market Strategy: a stronger internal market must remain open to global investment

The Single Market Strategy’s plan to introduce broad ‘European preference’ criteria into public procurement risks undermining the openness that has made Europe competitive and attractive to global partners. A thriving Single Market remains the number one driver of foreign investment into Europe, and the new Strategy promises a range of measures to unlock its full potential, making it simpler to do business across the EU. Tackling the ‘Terrible Ten’ market barriers and embracing digital tools, for example, are long overdue.  

Deepening transatlantic cooperation in DC

From Tuesday, 13 to Friday, 16 May, AmCham EU joined the AmChams in Europe network for a delegation visit to Washington, DC. The group met with representatives from the US Department of State, US Department of Commerce and Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) to discuss trade, investment and the broader transatlantic relationship. A highlight of the visit was the US launch of the Transatlantic Economy 2025 study, alongside AmCham EU’s counterparts at the US Chamber of Commerce. The report presents the latest data on the EU-US economic relationship.

Finding common ground on transatlantic trade

On Tuesday, 20 May, AmCham EU discussed the future of transatlantic trade with Leopoldo Rubinacci, Deputy Director-General, Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security, European Commission. The conversation highlighted the need for continued transatlantic engagement to address shared challenges, including avoiding the escalation of tariff disputes. Attendees also heard about the importance of working with like-minded partners to strengthen global rules-based trade and promote open, fair markets. Continued cooperation on trade is vital to supporting resilience, competitiveness and long-term economic growth. 

Introducing the 2025 Youth Entrepreneurship Award finalists

AmCham EU and JA Europe are pleased to announce the finalists for this year’s AmCham EU Youth Entrepreneurship Award 2025. The award, now in its 13th edition, recognises young people’s entrepreneurial spirit and aims to foster innovation in Europe. The finalists were selected from a pool of applicants from all over Europe. The winner will be selected by a high-level jury and announced on Thursday, 12 June at our Gala evening. 

Strengthening environmental ties in Finland

From Monday, 12 to Tuesday, 13 May 2025, AmCham EU visited Helsinki, Finland to meet with AmCham Finland, the European Chemicals Agency, the Finnish Chamber of Commerce, the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Finnish Ministry of Environment. During the visit, the delegates emphasised the importance of advancing regulatory simplification and supporting innovation across industries. The discussions focused on ongoing files including the REACH Revision, the implementation of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, the simplification of the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation and the upcoming EU water resilience strategy. Throughout the meetings, participants reinforced the need for a balanced and science-based approach to environmental legislation to support Europe’s green transition and industrial competitiveness.
