A compass for better care

Beating cancer is one fight; protecting the heart through treatment is another. Heart-related complications are now the second leading cause of death among cancer survivors, and with diagnoses in Europe expected to rise 18% by 2040, the challenge will only grow. COMPASS, a €50.5 million initiative bringing together more than 60 partners, is building an AI-powered system that helps flag cardiotoxicity risk early and personalise care, so oncologists and cardiologists can act sooner and keep cancer treatment on track. GE HealthCare leads the industry side of the work, helping turn the research into everyday clinical practice across Europe. Read the full story on Invested in Europe.

Industry calls for ambitious tax simplification

AmCham EU has joined 22 other business, financial and professional associations in calling on Member States to reach agreement on the Commission’s Tax Simplification Package. The measures could save businesses operating in Europe around €8 billion a year, money currently absorbed by complexity rather than invested in growth. Tax collected only to be refunded and withholding taxes that hinder investment in the Single Market add costs without strengthening the tax base. Europe has already strengthened its tax framework, so simplification can go ahead without weakening enforcement. Agreement will only matter if the ambition of the package survives the negotiations.
