With up to a fifth of the EU’s building CO₂ emissions coming from their construction, renovation, deconstruction, demolition and wider supply chain, Owens Corning is responding by investing in more sustainable technologies at its Paroc Hällekis insulation plant in Sweden. The company has launched a multi-year project to replace two coke-fired cupola furnaces with an electric melting furnace, which could reduce the plant’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 80%. Supported by the Swedish Energy Agency’s Industrial Leap programme, the initiative enhances Owens Corning’s sustainability credentials, builds employees' skillsets and aligns with its 2030 climate goals. Reciprocal tariffs: AmCham EU urges de-escalation in tit-for-tat dispute

The US administration announced the imposition of a 20% tariff on most imports from the EU. In response, the EU indicated it is preparing for further countermeasures if no negotiated solution is found. AmCham EU is concerned that these measures will create damaging ripple effects across all sectors of the economy. Tariffs are harmful taxes on imports that increase costs for consumers and businesses. The associated financial impact and supply chain disruptions for a broad range of industries will be widespread and are simply too difficult to assess. The rapid imposition of the tariffs adds to the overall uncertainty, leaving close to no time for companies and officials to adjust.

Farming for the future

Despite the country's 100,000 hectares of orchards, 90% of farmers in Bosnia and Herzegovina use outdated equipment, limiting productivity and sustainability. To address these challenges, CNH’s Sustainable Development Initiatives division partnered with equipment seller Case IH, importer Motoremont and local nonprofit Spektar to provide farmers with modern tractors with precision farming technology, carbon-filtered cabs and GPS support. In addition, the project included training sessions on sustainable chemical use and precision farming for farmers and university students. As a result, orchard owners' practices have become more efficient and environmentally conscious. Building on the success achieved in Bosnia and Herzegovina, CNH now aims to expand the initiative to Serbia. Learn more on Invested in Europe.
