Building deeper intellectual property links with EUIPO

How can intellectual property (IP) boost Europe's competitiveness? That's what AmCham EU asked on Tuesday, 13 and Wednesday, 14 May, during a delegation to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain. During the visit, delegates met with EUIPO leadership to discuss trends in IP filings, business promotion activities and opportunities for enhanced cooperation. Participants also covered IP enforcement trends, the new EU design framework, the role of alternative dispute resolution in IP and EUIPO’s initiatives on copyright and artificial intelligence. Throughout the visit, participants highlighted the need to foster creativity and strengthen IP protection to support Europe's innovation landscape. 

Finding common ground on transatlantic trade

On Tuesday, 20 May, AmCham EU discussed the future of transatlantic trade with Leopoldo Rubinacci, Deputy Director-General, Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security, European Commission. The conversation highlighted the need for continued transatlantic engagement to address shared challenges, including avoiding the escalation of tariff disputes. Attendees also heard about the importance of working with like-minded partners to strengthen global rules-based trade and promote open, fair markets. Continued cooperation on trade is vital to supporting resilience, competitiveness and long-term economic growth. 

EU-UK agreement: a step forward for European security and cross-border business

The agreement struck between the EU and the UK is a step towards a closer relationship that bolsters Europe’s security and prosperity. The Security and Defence Partnership affirms the vital role of partnership in Europe’s defence and security. Addressing both current rearmament needs and long-term capability development will require sustained collaboration among all NATO Allies – in the EU, the UK and across the Atlantic.
