AmCham EU supports progress in the debate on investment protection in TTIP

Brussels, 7 May, 2015 – The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) supports EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström’s efforts to improve the functioning of the Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) mechanism in TTIP.   The consultation process adopted by the European Commission has provided a forum for real debate on perceived and real issues with the current system with a view to finding the best possible way forward, taking into account the various objectives and constraints.

AmCham EU believes that a carefully crafted ISDS mechanism is necessary to encourage investment critical to growth and competitiveness in the EU and calls on the European Parliament and Member States to support and actively engage with the European Commission in this process. The European Commission’s recently released concept paper on ISDS provides an important basis for further discussion in this regard. AmCham EU looks forward to participating in a constructive debate on the best long-term solution to creating an ISDS mechanism that will ensure that Europe attracts the investment it needs to remain competitive in an increasingly global marketplace.
